Cuisinart is an American kitchen appliance brand founded in 1971 by Carl Sontheimer, a Massachusetts-born physicist and engineer who discovered the Robot Coupe food processor while attending a housewares show in France. Sontheimer licensed the technology, spent 18 months refining the design for American home cooks, and introduced the Cuisinart Food Processor in 1973 at the National Housewares Exposition in Chicago.
